Really solid analysis on the data shift. The comparison to flu now being more dangerous is wild considering where we were in 2020. I've noticed hospitals in my area have quietly dismantled most of their COVID protocols over the past year which aligns with thes numbers. The part about life expectancy hitting 79 is especially under-reported compared to how much coverage the decline got.

Right? The life expectancy decline was a bang and the recovery a whisper.

RFK jr was predicting a huge spike in all cause mortality from the mRNA vaccines that would have shown up in the data this past year. But now we can say that Hawaii did the best job with Covid mitigation measures because everyone in Hawaii ended up getting Covid but the fact it is an island allowed it to have the most robust mitigation measures so that it could delay infection so that everyone could get vaccinated. Contrast that with Arizona which has the highest COVID death rate and it did the fewest mitigation measures for large states in 2020 and then not enough people took advantage of the vaccine.

So we never found a “silver bullet” to stop Covid but masking and social distancing and testing delayed spread to a significant degree which allowed people to get vaccinated which greatly reduced severity and hospitalization and ultimately the Covid death rate. Of course in 2021 RFK published his anti-Fauci screed that was mostly about how HIV meds cause AIDS when AIDS hasn’t been a death sentence since Fauci and the Western public health community figured out the correct regime of HIV meds around 1996. Fauci helped find a “silver bullet” to stop AIDS and conspiracy theorists still rejected it at the time with the “HIV meds causing AIDS” conspiracy theory seeping into public discourse at the same time HIV meds could stop AIDS!?!
